AGGRESSIVE TELEMARKETING: GREEN LIGHT TO STOP CALLS ON MOBILE PHONES

As widely estimated, the Council of Ministers held yesterday evening gave the green light to the aggressive telemarketing on mobile phones. The ball now passes to the Ministry of Economic Development, but the entry into force of the law will not be immediate.

The new regulations provide that mobile numbers may also enter the Objections Register, which has been active for years. In fact, it forces call center operators to check the same register before proceeding with promotional calls.

The text ” extends the discipline of this register to all national fixed and mobile numbers and also includes those not included in the telephone, paper or electronic directories, which until now were excluded ” and adapts the legislation on the use of personal data contained in the telephone directories. Substantially, therefore, the Register will also be extended to communications via paper mail.

For the entry into force, however, we will have to wait at least for the end of 2020. The Regulation in fact provides that before the signature by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, the Government consults with operators and consumers, as well as with the Privacy Guarantor.

It also remains to be understood how to enter the Opposition Register and the possible fee to be paid.

This is undoubtedly a novelty that will be welcomed by users, especially in light of the increase in calls from call centers which are often too invasive.
