The protagonist of the series said how old her character would be in the Netflix series, causing controversy with her followers.
Lily Collins recently revealed her character’s actual age on the Netflix series Emily In Paris, and the internet is divided on her authenticity.
The actress spoke extensively about her character during her interview with Vogue UK and was even quoted as saying, “I don’t think we gave her a ‘specific number’ for her age, but I think she’s pretty fresh out of college. Maybe this is your first year after graduation. “
She went on to say, “I mean she’s like 22 years old. You’ve had enough experience at your Chicago company to earn your boss’s respect. She went to school for this and completed internships. “
News of this magnitude left fans reeling, with some of them even taking to social media to call the actress and “gently” remind her how wrong she is.
One user explained: “Um @lilycollins, I’m not sure how to tell you this, but a 22-year-old with a master’s degree AND relevant work experience is a genius who graduated from college at 18 or is lying about her age…”
Others could not process their surprise and simply exclaimed: “’Wait, #EmilyInParis is 22 years old, has a master’s degree, and leads social strategy for multiple luxury brands in a foreign country?!?!?!?! “
Shortly after the social media frenzy broke out, the actress poked fun at herself by backtracking on her original statement and posted a hilarious gif highlighting her character’s reaction to being nicknamed 22.
