After passing The Lion King, Tolo Tolo is unrivaled even with new weekly releases such as Richard Jewell of Clint Eastwood and Jojo Rabbit of Taika Waititi, which arrive in Italy after the 2020 Oscar nominations.
In fact, Checco Zalone’s film beats all the new entries in the ranking that came out with a collection on Thursday 16 January of 192 thousand euros, a figure that brings the total to 42.3 million pending the possible new leap forward in the incoming weekend. Detached tickets now amount to 6 million.
In second place we find Hammamet, which collects 149 thousand euros and reaches a total of 3 million, while Piccole Donne by Greta Gerwig collects 142 thousand euros and closes in third place, reaching a total of 2.3 million euros.
Very modest results for new entries: Eastwood opens in fourth place with Richard Jewell, who makes his debut with 80 thousand euros, practically almost a third of the 220 thousand euros with which Il Corriere – The Mule made his debut last year, while in fifth place with 54 thousand euro is Jojo Rabbit square. We’ll see if the two films will be helped by the upcoming weekend, or by the advertising guaranteed by the seven total Academy Awards nominations (six for Waititi’s film, one for Eastwood’s).
Finally, the horror The Lodge opens in ninth place with 23 thousand euros, with the top ten being closed by Jumanji: The Next Level and its 23 thousand euros: the total, for the film with Dwayne Johnson, is 11.5 million euros.
